About me

Monique Duguay

Based on beautiful Vancouver Island, I’m a mixed media artist with over 40 years of creative exploration. My artistic journey has been shaped not only by inspiration but also by the challenges of Multiple Sclerosis, which I’ve navigated for almost as long. My work is found in public and private collections across Canada, a testament to the passion and vibrancy I pour into every piece. Inspired by a lifelong connection to nature and animals, my art is a celebration of colour, texture, and form β€” but it’s the bold, vibrant colours that infuse my work with an unmistakable energy and spirit.

At the heart of my practice are acrylic paintings and linocuts. My process is deeply tactile, incorporating a wide array of tools and materials: brushes, scrapers, palette knives, rollers, sponges, sandpaper, paper, fabric, found objects and techniques like scratching and scraping. Each tool brings a unique texture and expression, transforming my canvases into a playground of creativity.

I embrace the joy of stepping beyond the boundaries of structure and theory, letting my imagination and spirit take the lead. In these moments, my inner child comes alive β€” playing, dancing, and soaring across the canvas.

I am dedicated to using high-quality papers and inks, blending coloured papers with a full spectrum of vibrant inks to achieve a rich variety of effects. Each piece is a labor of love, infused with the passion and freedom that define my artistic voice.
